Babe Zaharias Golf Course is located in Tampa. Mildred Ella “Babe” Didrikson Zaharias was physically gifted in many fields. In 1935 she began to concentrate on golf. She won 17 tournaments in a row in 1946 and 1947. She was voted the Associated Press’s #1 Woman Athlete of the Year in 1931, 1945,1946,1946,1950 and 1954. The course was opened in 1926 as Forest Hills Golf and Country Club. The “Babe” bought the course in 1949 and lived in the second story of the clubhouse until 1954 when she moved to a house close by. After her death in 1956 the course’s existence became questionable. It was nearly developed several times into housing, but Tampa city bought the course in 1974 as a memorial to her. Since then it has been rebuild into a challenging course for all golfers.
The Claw at USF is a course that plays from 5353 to 6863 yards and offers 4 tee boxes. It is named for the famous oddly shaped tree that “eats” balls on the 14th hole. Over the years they continue to improve the course. It offers a chance to play on land adjacent to a Florida land preservation area, and to enjoy towering moss-draped oaks, native pines and numerous lakes as you play golf.
Lexington Oaks Golf Course is located in Wesley Chapel, a 20 minutes drive from downtown Tampa. Its 18-hole championship layout offers a variety of elevations set amidst lakes and wetlands. Opening in 2000, its 6,748-yard course is set up to accommodate many skill levels.
In the early days, Rogers Park was the only area designated for African Americans to go. It contained all the elements of a park- swing sets, picnic tables and baseball field. The funds were donated by G.D. Rogers. A group of caddies from Palma Ciea C.C. asked if they could build a nine hole course that was finished in 1952 and named Rogers Park Golf Couse, now open to and enjoyed by all. A clubhouse was built, and then remodeled in 2002. Over the years many other improvements have been made. Now it is a fine 18-hole course.
The River Club is conveniently located to conveniently to Tampa and St. Petersburg. It was designed by Ron Garl and contains a challenging layout. The front nine are on rolling fairways, while the back is particularly difficult. The back has many strategically placed sand bunkers, undulating greens and many large trees. The whole course is a challenge with a high slope rating which makes it a very memorable course to play for the golfer.
Rocky Point Golf Course got its start in 1911 as the Tampa Automobile Club. As one of the first golf courses it was something of a novelty, but lasted until 1942 with the coming of World War II. Barracks were built and prisons of war were held for the duration of the war. In 1953 Tampa regained the use of the course leasing it to J.S. ”Curly” Hartman and his wife for 25 years. During that time more holes were added. Then in 1978, it became part of the Tampa Sports Authority. They reduced the number of holes from 27 to 18, making it more difficult. In 1993 a new clubhouse was added.
Silverthorn Country Club was finished in 1994. Play distance is 6933 yards, with a slope rating of 131, will give the golfer a difficult game. There are many bunkers placed throughout the course. For added challenge there are links-style holes and tree-lined ones in the John Lee designed course.

The complicated shots are a challenge. The Turtle Run Course is a Charles Ankrom course that opened in 1999. The design features deep bunkers, moguls, and fast greens. It takes its name from the nearby wildlife presence from the “Scrub Jay Preservation Area “ which you can observe but not venture into.
