Rancho San Joaquin is one of the better public courses in Orange County. It is located near UC Irvine. The golf course is very well-manicured and the maintenance personnel and course architects made sure that they designed this course to be especially beautiful. Each hole has unique characteristics. Fairways are average in width and have mostly ample landing areas. Some variance in elevation is common at this course. Hole fourteen, a par four measured at 367 yards, features a drop of more than 60 feet from the fairway to the green. The greens are in very good shape and have many subtle undulations. A few ponds come into play on 7 holes. A redesign by Robert Muir Graves took place on the course in 1972. A practice facility next to the course consists of a putting green and a very nice, large driving range. Carts are required on Sunday mornings. The ladies play a total of 5,794 yards, which is ample for some men, therefore the ladies tees sport a men's course rating of 66.7 and slope of 109.
